Educational leave
re:publica (or parts of the re:publica programme) are recognised as educational leave in the following federal states:
- Berlin (only educational programme, times may change)
- Hamburg (complete event)
- Brandenburg (application in progress)
- Saarland (only educational programme, times may change)
- Thuringia (complete event)
- Rhineland-Palatinate (complete event)
The decisive factor for the application is your place of work, not your place of residence.
Unfortunately, we are not (yet) recognised in the following federal states as educational leave: Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Bremen, Hesse, Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, North Rhine-Westphalia, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein.
The reasons for this always vary from state to state. However, this does not mean that your educational leave is not possible. Just ask at your workplace; there are often specific internal regulations on this.
The prerequisite for officially applying for educational leave is usually a training or employment position. Although the exact wording is "educational event for vocational and political training", in general all employees (such as trainees, workers, employees, interns, work-at-home employees) are entitled.

To be able to apply for educational leave for re:publica, you also need a valid ticket for the event.
You can find further information on bildungsurlaub.de.
Firstly, download the notice of recognition by your federal state:
- Berlin (educational programme only, times may change)
- Hamburg (complete event)
- Brandenburg (application in progress)
- Saarland (educational programme only, times may change)
- Thuringia (complete event)
- Rhineland-Palatinate (complete event)
You then submit an application to your employer together with the relevant notice of recognition. Ideally, this should be done four to eight weeks before the event. The exact regulations are a matter of the federal states and therefore depend on their respective legislation.
Information for your application in the individual federal states can be found here:
If you have been granted educational leave, please register with us by sending a message to bildungsprogramm@re-publica.com. Important: In the message, please provide details of the federal state in which you work (e.g. "I would like to register my participation in re:publica 24 as educational leave for the federal state of Hamburg"). You will then receive a confirmation from us by e-mail and – if necessary – a link to an online form.
Don't have a re:publica ticket yet? Now is the perfect time to buy one!
Only for Berlin and Saarland: As these federal states have not recognised the entire event, but only the educational programme “Polaritäts-, Populismus- und Desinformationskrise mit Schwerpunkt Rechtsruck in Deutschland” (Polarity, populism and disinformation crisis with a focus on the shift to the right in Germany) as educational leave, you must have your participation in these sessions (of at least 6 hours daily) confirmed on site. The forms for this are available at the accreditation desk.
For all federal states: At re:publica 24 you can pick up a confirmation of participation at the Infopoint for submission to your place of work.
